In recent years, JRS Malta has been working on expanding and enhancing our services for refugee youth. Building on what we’ve learned, we are now launching a four-year project (2024-2028), “Pathway Towards a Hope-Filled Future: The Implementation of an Integration Programme for Youth.”
Co-funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF), this project is designed to empower young asylum seekers with the values, knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for active citizenship and employability.
This programme aligns with one of our core values – to accompany refugee youth as they navigate life in Malta. It features a holistic approach that combines a number of different components including:
  1. Information and Guidance: Providing tailored support, individual mentoring, and guidance to address gaps in information and integration services for refugees and asylum seekers.
  2. Non-Formal Education: Offering opportunities to develop language proficiency, literacy, civic knowledge, and essential life skills.
  3. Community-Building Initiatives: Creating safe and welcoming spaces where refugee youth can connect, build friendships, and explore life in Malta together.
Beyond supporting youth directly, the project also aims to build the capacity of service providers, ensuring their services are more accessible and relevant to young asylum seekers and beneficiaries of protection who are traditionally harder to reach. A special emphasis will be placed on addressing the needs of young refugee women and girls through targeted research into their integration experiences. The findings will inform the review and improvement of existing services, ensuring they better meet the unique challenges faced by this group.
Pathway towards a hope-filled-future: the implementation of an integration programme for youth is Co-funded by the EUROPEAN UNION.
