Call for applications for the post of Social Worker within JRS Malta 

 JRS Malta is seeking to recruit a SOCIAL WORKER on a one-year definite term contract, with the possibility of renewal, to work with asylum seekers and immigrants in Malta.

Terms and conditions

This a full-time position. The selected candidate will be offered a one year definite contract, with the possibility of renewal. Salary offered will be commensurate to experience.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

→    Hold a recognised degree in Social Work

→    Be in possession of a Social Work Warrant as regulated by the Social Work Profession Act

→     Have an excellent command of written and spoken English

→    Be flexible, able to communicate effectively, and willing to work in a multi-disciplinary team

→     Be able to work independently and on their own initiative within a fast-paced environment

→    Be willing to work with and for people from diverse cultures

→    Be of good moral character and demonstrate a sound work ethic

The following will be considered an asset:

→     A working knowledge of Maltese

→    Knowledge of other relevant languages, such as French and Arabic

→    Previous experience working in the refugee/humanitarian field

→    Driving licence and own transport

Job description

The selected candidate will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The selected candidate will be expected to:

  1. Provide a full range of social work services to asylum seekers and refugees including; meeting with individual clients and/or families to assess their needs and goals, referring to external agencies and service providers relevant to clients’ needs, developing and implementing a care plan for in-depth clients, and fostering a long-term working relationship with in-depth clients.
  2. Liaise with other caring professionals within the JRS team to provide a holistic psychosocial service to clients.
  3. Take a lead role in providing support to clients facing hardship and housing difficulties.
  4. Conduct outreach activities as part of team in open and closed centres.
  5. Provide information sessions about integration in Malta in open centres and other settings.
  6. Assist in the implementation of JRS’ drop-in service.
  7. Maintain updated records of all services provided and assist with project-related tasks and activities, including reporting, as necessary.
  8. Undertake any other tasks that may be necessary.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview and may also be required to undertake a number of tasks, which could include spending a number of hours in the office or accompanying member of the team on outreach, in order to better understand the nature of the work involved, before a final decision is taken.
