Call for the post of Social Worker with JRS Malta

JRS Malta is seeking to recruit a SOCIAL WORKER to work with asylum seekers and migrants in Malta.

This a full-time position. Salary offered will be commensurate to experience.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Hold a recognised degree in Social Work
• Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
• Be flexible, able to communicate effectively, and willing to work in a multi-disciplinary team
• Be able to work independently and on their own initiative within a fast-paced environment
• Possess extensive organisational and communication skills
• Be willing to work with and for people from diverse cultures
• Be of good moral character and demonstrate a sound work ethic

The following will be considered an asset:

• Be in possession of a Social Work Warrant as regulated by the Social Work Profession Act
• Experience working in the social care field in Malta and/or in the refugee/humanitarian field
• A working knowledge of Maltese
• Knowledge of other relevant languages, such as French and Arabic
• Driving licence and own transport

Job description

The selected candidate will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The selected candidate will be expected to:

1. Provide a full range of social work services to asylum seekers and refugees including; meeting with individual clients and/or families to assess their needs and goals, referring to external agencies and service providers relevant to clients’ needs, developing and implementing a care plan for in-depth clients, and fostering a long-term working relationship with in-depth clients.
2. Liaise with other professionals within the JRS team to provide a holistic psychosocial service to clients.
3. Actively foster a productive collaborative relationship with mainstream service providers and agencies.
4. Take a lead role in providing support to clients facing hardship and housing difficulties.
5. Provide services and support within JRS services, including outreach activities in closed and open centres.
6. Maintain updated records of all services provided and assist with project-related tasks and activities, including reporting, as necessary.
7. Participate in the advocacy work of JRS, in protecting the rights and dignity of migrants and asylum seekers in Malta.
8. Undertake any other tasks that may be necessary.
