Beginning of October is back-to-school season and JRS Malta is launching an appeal for the public to assist us with funds for our Educational and Youth Programme. Since 2023, JRS Malta has been running this programme that aims to provide specialized services and support to young refugees. Part of this programme includes offering mentoring and guidance on education and employment.
JRS also embarked on a project aimed at addressing the needs for young refugees to be able to concentrate fully on their studies. To this end, we were given the use of a Jesuit house, Dar Pedro Arrupe in Zejtun, which over the summer of 2022 was renovated into a home to house five students.
The all-male residents who reside here need to be full-time students. They are given a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal.
Each resident is given an individualized care plan in order to make the stay at Zejtun as fruitful as possible. Our case worker and social worker carry out weekly visits, hold individual one-to-one meetings every 3 months and provide continuous mentoring and support.
Our Youth Programme also includes cultural outings aimed at helping refugees achieve more hands-on experiences within the community.

How can you help?
Your donations can help us cover the bills to run Dar Pedro Arrupe, organise activities and fund courses, all of which helps us to continue walking with young refugees towards a hope-filled future.
With your donations, we are looking to reach these targets:
-Cover the bills for 3 months for Dar Pedro Arrupe in Zejtun – €400
-Cultural Outings for Youths – €100
– 3 to 4 vocational training courses – €1,000 (courses are dependent on the goals of the clients but could include ICDL, Electricical Installation, Plumbing, Forklift Operator and more)
Your support to JRS is highly appreciated. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our benefactors and donors who support us in our mission to accompany, serve and defend refugees and the forcibly displaced in Malta.
You can make a donation online by clicking here. Feel free to write ‘education’ as a description to your donation.
