JRS Europe has penned a statement ahead of the EU Parliament vote on the pact on migration and asylum. JRS Malta, which is part of the JRS Europe network, is among the signatories.

Why is JRS Europe calling on MEPs to vote against the pact? Because this deal will:
1️⃣ Increase detention of thousands of people at the borders, including children.
2️⃣ Complicate access to protection, without guaranteeing access to legal assistance.
3️⃣ Increase human suffering.
4️⃣ Outsourcing the responsibility to protect to countries with dubious human rights records.
5️⃣ All while not providing any solutions to the current shortcomings.
